Chapter 6
Stretching, I rolled over on the comfortable mattress and bumped right into my lover. “Good morning,” I murmured, tucking the sheet tighter around my naked body.
“Morning, Cassandra mine,” Roman replied. He swept the hair back from my face and leaned in, pressing his lips against my own. “Did you sleep well?”
“As good as always with you by my side.”
His full lips curled upward in a grin as his fingertips drifted across my skin, pausing over my shoulder as he tugged my body closer. “I need you.”
“Oh?” I asked, nuzzling my nose against his own. “I think you get your way far too often.”
Roman’s body covered mine as he moved between my thighs. “When it comes to you, I’m never satisfied enough.” He kissed me again, lingering much longer than the first kiss. “I want all of you, Cassandra. Every single, little, special part.”
Something flickered in the back of my mind. A hint of worry and I blinked in response.
“What is it?” he asked, moving his hips against my own. “Do I arouse your desires? Your need?”
How strange to ask that way with a dark gleam in his eyes. “I, I don’t know,” I answered honestly, a bit confused as I stuttered the words.
My head ached slightly, and I felt a bit off.
“Are you unwell, my beloved?”
“I’m not sure,” I admitted.
Nausea churned in my stomach and I slipped from the bed, running toward the bathroom. After becoming violently sick, I rinsed my mouth at the sink and made my way back to the bed. Roman seemed concerned. His arm slid around my shoulders as he pulled me into his embrace. A kiss was dropped on top of my head.
“When was the last time you had your period?”
Shocked, I couldn’t seem to remember. “Last month?”
He smiled knowingly, lowering his hand over my belly. “Maybe we finally made that baby you want.”
A baby? That seemed . . . odd.
I couldn’t do anything but breathe in and out for several minutes, trying to understand why my heart racing and my thoughts seemed scrambled.
“Perhaps we should make sure that it happens,” he whispered in my ear as his hand slid between my legs. “I need you.”
That was the second time he said that, his voice both seductive and alluring. I closed my eyes and tried to figure out why I felt so strangely. The need to push him away grew with intensity. I gently pushed his hand off my body and lifted my head until I could stare into his dark eyes.
“Something isn’t right.”
“With what, Cassandra mine?”
“This. Us. It isn’t normal.”
“How can you say that?” He tilted his head to the side. “You love me as I love you. We’re trying to make a baby. This is perfection.”
No, it wasn’t.
“Roman,” I replied with frustration. “You’re keeping something from me.”
He shrugged, trying to move over my body again as his large hands spread my thighs apart. “Let me in, Cassandra Howe. Let me fill you,” he begged as his lips met mine.
NO!
The word exploded in my brain and I shoved him away, scrambling from the bed.
